Secondary School Programme

(Classes IX and X)

The Secondary school curriculum is developed keeping in mind the skills of the 21st century. Students are taught to be lifelong learners through independent thinking, critical reading, writing and analytical skills. The formative activities are selected to enhance the interest of students in the subjects besides linking the information with their daily life to keep it relevant to the student. At Open Sky , we make learning an enjoyable act where children feel that they are valued and their voices are heard. Adolescence is a vulnerable age for students and our curriculum prepares the students and provides support for social and emotional reinforcement and inculcates in them positive behaviour and provides skills essential to cope with situations that they encounter in their lives, peer pressure and gender stereotype. Open Sky offers constructive learning to provide students with challenges, encourage creativity and interact actively with peers, teachers and older people which would open up many more rich learning opportunities. The school envisions the all-round development of students in consonance with the holistic approach to education and therefore, emphasizes integration of co-curricular domain with curricular domain in an equitable manner.

The curriculum is learner-centered with the school being a place where students would be acquiring various skills; building self concept, sense of enterprise, aesthetic sensibilities and sportsmanship. With greater academic orientation and research skills in core academic areas, Open Skiites evolve as judicious young adults with a sense of real self-estimate having true values and principles. The CBSE guided syllabus is delivered to lead the students in a progressive and phased manner, enabling them to be well-prepared and future-ready. Application of knowledge and the development of analytical skills form an integral part of the programme that aims to develop students as responsible citizens who make positive contributions to the society. Open Sky enables children to expand their understanding of the outer world from academic and cultural perspectives through School trips and excursions. They participate in Dance, Drama, Fine Arts, Yoga, Olympiads and other activities. The

students organize and participate in Inter-house cultural and sports events, Community Service is an integral part of the learning, with students actively involved in various service projects. Emphasis is placed on learning by asking questions, problem-solving, and through the application. This is reinforced through curriculum-related trips, workshops, seminars, and films. Learning is not achieved in isolation. Authentic experiences and real-life examples are embedded into the syllabi in all the domains allowing for deep learning and engaging classrooms. The focus is on working towards making all learners independent and ultimately able to charge of their learning.
